BRAND FOCUS   Ophthalmic Synergies represents a world-first advancement in cataract surgery systems by integrating two historically separate technologies—femtosecond laser and phacoemulsification—into a unified, interactive platform.

Patton Design set out to fundamentally rethink the surgical workflow based on their experience in inventing the Alcon Infinity™ and Bausch + Lomb Stellaris™ cataract systems. Their invention of the IntraLase™ femto laser, an industry first, for cutting corneal flap during Lasik surgery.

The objective was to elevate surgical precision, streamline procedural flow, and improve patient outcomes through a more cohesive technological architecture.

SUCCESS   Patton Design developed and patented a novel system that combines femtosecond laser technology with phacoemulsification into a single, coordinated surgical process. This integration required sophisticated system design, workflow engineering, and intellectual property strategy to enable seamless interaction between the two modalities.

The resulting platform established a new technological framework for cataract surgery—supported by a robust portfolio of patents protecting the innovation globally.

All associated intellectual property and proprietary technologies were licensed to Lensar™, an international leader in femtosecond cataract surgical systems.

RESULTS   The Ophthalmic Synergies platform has advanced into market entry, positioning Lensar™ to receive complete FDA approval, and introduce a next-generation surgical solution within the ophthalmic sector.

By unifying laser and phaco technologies into one interactive system, the innovation is designed to enhance surgical efficiency, reduce procedural variability, and improve patient visual outcomes—marking a significant evolution in cataract surgery.
