BRAND FOCUS Following a nationwide search for a premier medical software consultancy, Edwards Lifesciences selected Patton Design to co-develop a next-generation cardiopulmonary monitoring platform.

Doug Patton’s expertise in advanced GUI architecture and complex medical software systems was central to the engagement. Working closely with Edwards’ strategic leadership, including Morgan McKeown, the collaboration aimed to redefine how clinicians visualize and interpret critical patient data in real time.

The objective was not incremental improvement—but a transformation of the clinical information experience.

SUCCESS After two years of intensive development, the EV1000 platform was launched.

The system fundamentally changed how surgeons and nurses interact with cardiopulmonary data. Among its most groundbreaking innovations were dynamic physiological animations of the heart, lungs, and circulatory system—intelligently driven by live patient data. Instead of relying solely on numeric values and static graphs, clinicians could interpret real-time conditions through responsive visual models.

This human-centered visualization approach elevated situational awareness, workflow clarity, and clinical decision confidence.

RESULTS The EV1000 established a new standard in advanced hemodynamic monitoring and became a widely adopted clinical platform.

Building on that foundation, Patton Design continues its strategic partnership with Edwards Lifesciences in the development of predictive analytics technologies. The Hemosphere platform advances this evolution—leveraging data intelligence to anticipate hypertensive events before they occur, enabling earlier intervention and improved patient outcomes.
